Amalur Sanctum now hosts an online ability calculator! Very handy for those who want to plan character builds. To access it, go to the “Online Tools” section from the navigation menu.

Feel free to leave a comment if you have a suggestion or noticed something. I’ll add more cool stuff like that later on. 🙂 Usage instructions below.

About the Sanctum

Greetings Reckoner! and welcome to Amalur Sanctum, a dedicated fansite about Amalur and its only released game: Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. To quickly present myself, I’m a big fan of RPG and hack’n slash video games ; in real life, I work as an IT systems engineer and live at Paris in France. You won’t easily find me on the Web as I prefer to stay deep in the shadows, into the most obscure darkness… :p
Nah seriously, I’m more a lurker than an active Web user and between my family and my job, I don’t have much time for an additional virtual life anyway.

What is Amalur? A former baseball superstar decided one day to launch its own video game company (38 studios) in order to create the mmo he was dreaming of. With famous names joining his team (Todd Mc Farlane, R.A Salvatore, Ken Rolston), the franchise had quickly gained a lot of attention. 38 studios later bought Big Huge Games which were/was working on a single-player RPG. From that union, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was born. Back in these days, there was a very active community even before the release of Reckoning, the official forums were a nice place to frequent.

Unfortunately, things went bad after on. 38 Studios ran out of cash and on a dark day of 24 May 2012, the chairman was forced to lay off all his employees. The great community collapsed, the official forums shut down, and other places about KOA progressively became deserted. The only people posting on the remaining forums (steam, gamefaqs etc…) were the classic new player archetype having a specific question who doesn’t come back again once he gets his answer. Things have stayed in this state until now, in 2018.

Having seen an enigmatic thread on the steam forums about a Dr Pepper promotion, Ryan Paul Falcowitz started a discussion to ask about a hidden cheat mode apparently existing in the game. This information was revealed by aqbayli who claimed having managed to access it but didn’t want to share his discovery because of the paid content the cheat mode can apparently unlock. This topic was pretty much ignored during one whole year, most people thought it was just a hoax, myself included.

But then, dsasmblr stepped in and confirmed the cheat menu does exist for real. While being unable to access it, dsasmblr clearly proved those pics with the cheat mode UI weren’t photoshop edits. Kender then joined the search, he shared some knowledge about the file format of the game files, notably the lua version used in game and started a github to centralize his researches. Later on, atom0s jumped into the wagon and within only a few weeks has made more discoveries than I’ve seen within the 6 years that followed the game release.

As a true fan of the game, I’m glad to see some kind of real conversations starting again. There’s now hope to see mods for one of the best RPG I’ve ever played. Reckoning doesn’t have a fansite anymore besides the wiki and with the recent events happening, it sounds like the perfect time to create one and change the unfair fate of a franchise that had so much potential.

The goal of the Sanctum is to provide a structured place to find interesting and exclusive content related to Amalur. Hopefully, no topics will be forgotten. I’ve dissected the game much, fully completed it several times, looked across the web, discussed with some former employees before sharing all the information present on this site. English is not my native language so please be indulgent if you find some language mistakes.

Amalur Sanctum was made with fully responsive design in mind, there’s no particular aspect ratio nor resolution recommended. If you find a bug in the layout, please report it to me using the contact form in the link sections. Don’t forget to mention your platform/OS, browser and screen resolution.

Enjoy your stay. 🙂
